Our story

The dream for Restore Community Church began in 2006 with a gathering of church leaders from across the country.  Planning a christian convention in Kansas City for the summer of 2007, the church leaders envisioned a gathering that would not only impact the city for one week during the convention, but would impact the city for years to come through the start of a local church.

In 1996, after leaving a successful career in engineering management, Troy McMahon embarked on a major career shift and joined the staff of a growing church in Chicagoland.  It was this church that developed him as a pastor and leader.  Community Christian then began a church planting movement called the New Thing Network.  Watching this network grow, seeing new churches reaching people far from God spring up all across the country, Troy began to recognize that God was stirring in his heart a dream for a brand new church in Kansas city.  Having grown up in Paola, Kansas, just south of the KC metro area, Troy began to dream of a reproducing church that would change the spiritual landscape of the whole Kansas City area.  A church that would help people find their way back to God and mobilize Christ followers to change the world.

The vision of the church leaders at the gathering in Kansas City, met Troy's vision and they agreed that Troy would lead a New Thing Network church in Kansas City.

Troy shared his vision with others and soon had gathered a staff team and volunteer leaders resulting in 22 people relocating to Kansas City to be a part of Restore Community Church. These people come from a variety of backgrounds, banking, teaching, construction...just ordinary people, really, but serving an extraodinary God.

Since July, 2007, team members have begun arriving in Kansas City with a dream of reaching ordinary people just like themselves.  People who have rejected, misunderstood or somehow missed the amazing love of God.
